JORGE ACUÑA SET FOR CANARY TRYOUT

Friday morning sees Chilean international Jorge Acuña hook up with Feyenoord for a trial. The 24-year-old midfielder of Universidad Catolica will jet out with the rest of the playing staff to the club’s Canary Islands training retreat and is subsequently expected to spend an extra week training with the squad in Rotterdam. Acuña was one of the biggest attractions of the recent Chilean league.

The press in Chile report that Acuña is delighted with the opportunity to show what he can do in Rotterdam. ‘I never thought my dream would come true this fast. In 2002 I became a first-team player at Catolica, won the championship and was selected for the Chilean national squad. It appears that the latter was the decisive factor, because during the friendly against Andalusia I was spotted by Feyenoord. This is a dream. I’m going to Europe with the desire to make a name for myself in the football world,’ Acuña admitted, ahead of his flight to the Netherlands.
