NO MORE SONG TILL 2003

It never rains but it pours. Well, the latest cloudburst above the Kuip comes in the form of ligament damage to the left ankle of Chong-Gug Song. The South Korean is ruled out of Bert van Marwijk’s plans until next year after picking up the injury in Saturday’s debacle at Heerenveen. ‘Chong-Gug has torn his front ankle ligament,’ club arts Van Linschoten reported Monday. ‘We’ll know this week how serious it is.’

Van Lindschoten appeared pessimistic about the Korean’s chances of turning out for Feyenoord before January however. That means that Song misses the league games against AZ and NAC and almost certainly the gala game to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Real Madrid on 18 December. The injury came at the end of a week in which Song was voted most successful Korean in foreign service. Korean football magazine 'Best Eleven' came to that conclusion on the back of a survey among its readers. The final result was as follows: 1. (1669 votes) Chong-gug Song (23.4%) 2. (1526) Seol, Anderlecht (21.4%) 3. (1196) Ji-sung Park, Kyoto Purple Sanga (16.8%) 4. (785) Du-ri Cha, Bielefeld 5. (638) Yong-Soo Choi, JEF United 6. (564) Eul-yong Lee, Trabzonspor
