SONG SELECTED FOR WORLD XI

Chong-Gug Song left training at Delle Alpi early Monday after feeling a twinge in his groin. The Korean is still very much part of Bert van Marwijk’s Italian plans however. ‘Better safe then sorry,’ the Feyenoord coach opined, ‘but I’m counting on Song being able to play tomorrow.’ The scare came the day Song was selected for a World XI set to take on mighty Real Madrid in the Spanish capital in a gala meet soon.

The game has been scheduled as part of the European champions 100-year anniversary celebrations. Feyenoord chairman Van den Herik received his own invitation to attend the match. Feyenoord welcome the invite for Song for a midweek game that falls between two weekend Eredivise encounters, but the club has reserved the right to review the situation should the Rotterdammers’ problems with injuries worsen.
