VAN HOOIJDONK OUT FOR FOUR WEEKS

More bad news for Bert van Marwijk Thursday. It looks as if goalmachine Pierre van Hooijdonk will be unavailable for the next four weeks after an x-ray showed that the striker suffered a hairline fracture of the right ankle in the Eredivise defeat to Ajax. ‘Straight after the Ajax game we had an x-ray taken, but it didn’t show anything,’ club doctor Van Linschoten confirmed Thursday. ‘Today’s photos show that there is a fracture after all.’

Said Van Linschoten talking exclusively to feyenoord.nl, ‘Pierre’s complaint was already there after the Ajax game. The x-ray showed nothing however, so he joined up with Oranje in the expectation that he would be ready to play within a couple of days. He continued to receive treatment from the football association staff. That didn’t aggravate the injury, but as he was still feeling it we decided to make another x-ray today to make sure. That’s normal medical procedure. You can see a hairline fracture on the photo. In itself it’s not a serious injury, but it does mean that Pierre won’t be playing football for the time being.’ The injury all but rules Van Hooijdonk out of the three remaining Champions League games, as well as Eredivisie fixtures against Vitesse, Willem II and FC Zwolle.
