ONO SCORES FOR JAPAN

Shinji Ono grabbed the goal that earned Japan a 1-1 draw with Jamaica in Tokyo’s National Stadium Wednesday in front of over 55,000 fans. The goal came after only six minutes, but wasn’t enough to hand the new Japanese national coach Zico the win he was looking for, as Ricardo Fuller levelled for the Caribbean nation with ten minutes left on the clock. Ono hopped aboard a long-haul to Holland directly after the match.

Despite the early breakthrough, when Takahara’s wonderful skill set up Feyenoorder Ono to score, the home side were unable to break down the Reggae Boyz again, as the visitors tested out their new anti-excitement device in the shape of a six-man defence. Japan continued to sculpt some chances, but lacking the cutting edge and were made to pay when Preston’s Ricardo Fuller rifled in an equaliser on 80 minutes.
