CL OPPONENTS NEWCASTLE UNITED LOSE AGAIN

Newcastle United are almost bottom of the Premiership after suffering a 0-2 home loss to Leeds United Wednesday night. The Magpies have garnered only four points this season and occupy nineteenth place, but manager Sir Bobby Robson sees no cause for concern yet. 'We played well, but we just couldn’t score.' The Toon Army however will be hoping the club isn’t returning to the mediocrity of just two seasons ago when relegation was close.

The 51,730 fans at St. James' Park saw the Mags fall behind to a Mark Viduka after four minutes, which set the tone for the whole game. Despite a huge amount of ball possession the home team were like a blunt axe against a well-organised Leeds defence. Alan Smith delivered the coup de grace a minute from time to kill off black and white hopes completely. ‘We made one mistake in 70 minutes and got punished for it,’ complained Robson. ‘We were very much the better side.’ Newcastle United-Leeds United 0-2 (0-1) (4) 0-1 Viduka (87) 0-2 Smith NEWCASTLE UNITED: Given, Hughes, O'Brien (Griffin 82), Bramble, Bernard, Solano, Dyer, Speed (Viana 66), Robert, Ameobi (Bellamy 66), Shearer
