NO NEW CONTACT WITH MAGPIES

Newcastle United has not been in touch with Feyenoord recently about a possible deal to take Brett Emerton to St James’ Park. Manager Jan D. Swart dates the latest talks between the two clubs’ chairmen to a month ago. 'Newcastle United knows how much Feyenoord is asking for Emerton. Van den Herik has never deviated from that. If they are interested then the initiative is with Newcastle. Up until this morning there was no contact.'

The report in the British press that the Tynesiders would not be able to pay the transfer sum in one go is old news to Feyenoord. 'But that’s not uncommon. If a transfer happens, in whatever direction, payment is almost always made in instalments. There is always a bank guarantee to cover the sum. Newcastle knows about that condition too,' Swart said. The British press bandy about a price of 8 million pounds, a figure Feyenoord is not prepared to comment on. Although journalists are quick to speculate that Feyenoord’s new Korean is an ideal replacement for the Aussie, Swart is adamant. 'Emerton is very valuable to Feyenoord. Knowing Van den Herik he will not be influenced by a declining market. The lad won’t be leaving for a song.’
