PIERRE IS BACK

It looks as if Pierre van Hooijdonk will be making his return to the Feyenoord first team on Tuesday evening in the practice match against Barendrecht. The striker has been without pain since Saturday. The latest echo performed on Monday afternoon as a precaution in Academisch Ziekenhuis Dijkzigt also showed that the trouble spot in his groin is ‘calm’. Van Hooijdonk joined full training on Monday.

‘Pierre has reacted well to the inflammation inhibitors since Saturday,’ said Manager Jan D. Swart. ‘That was good news, because on Friday it looked as if he would need a second injection. He was suffering from the pain that caused him to leave the Austrian training camp until Friday. But fortunately the tide turned on Saturday.’ Pierre van Hooijdonk hasn’t played a single practice match since training started on Saturday 6 July, consecutively missing Lekkerkerk, HSV, Kaiserslautern, Spijkenisse and Excelsior. He has been able to concentrate on his fitness however, as walking hasn’t been an issue. Problems started in shooting practice.
