FLEDGLING STARS SHOOTING FOR ROTTERDAM

Two of the shining lights of the most recent Feyenoord International Youth Tournament are set for a swift return to Rotterdam. One is Ghanaian Jordan Opuku, who bagged the best player award at the event, and who now joins the Feyenoord ‘A’ team for the next few months. The other is 18-year-old Brazilian ‘Michel’ Fernandes Bastos, a creative midfielder from América Belo Horizonte. Michel hooks up with Excelsior Saturday for an extended trial.

Attacking midfielder Michel, a good dribbler with a fantastic shot, won the Feyenoord International Youth Tournament last May with his club, and took the award as second most valuable player. ‘Michel will initially train with Excelsior,’ explained technical director Rob Baan, ‘so we can find out if he would strengthen Adrie Koster’s side.’ Just turned 17, Jordan Opuku has been in Rotterdam a couple of times, as part of the first class to start the Feyenoord Fetteh Football Academy in Ghana.
