SHINJI ONO LEAVING HOSPITAL

Shinji Ono is scheduled to leave his Tokyo hospital Friday afternoon. The attacking midfielder is back on his feet after Monday’s surgery to remove his appendix. After easing into things at his mother’s, the Japanese returns to Holland the middle of next week with his wife, before a short holiday in southern Europe. ‘Clearly, medicines kept Shinji on his feet for the World Cup,’ said Feyenoord manager Jan D. Swart.

Swart: ‘That was obviously not in Feyenoord’s best interests. But we understand that he didn’t want to miss it and that everyone in Japan thought the same way. Let’s be honest, if Feyenoord had had an important game I’m almost certain that we would have made the same call. So Shinji should be praised for saying, now it’s all over I don’t want Feyenoord to pay the bill, so I’ll make do with a short vacation.’
