SMOLAREK RECOVERY RIGHT ON TRACK

Ebi Smolarek is making good progress as he battles back to fitness. The 21-year-old left Dijkzigt Hospital three weeks ago after an operation on the cruciate ligament in his right knee, and has since taken on a daily fitness-targeting schedule. Smolarek’s physiotherapists report that the fluid in the Pole’s knee is diminishing markedly, while the muscle tone in his right leg continues to improve fast.

Ebi Smolarek will limit his first weeks’ exertions to some physical exercises on the machine, which the player also uses at home. After a while he’ll start running on the treadmill. He would normally need around fifteen weeks of careful exercise to lay a healthy foundation for more strenuous exertions later. A full recovery is expected after a little over seven months.
