SHINJI ONO UNDER KNIFE AFTER ALL

Shinji Ono is set to enter a Tokyo hospital in his native Japan coming Monday (24 June) to undergo surgery to remove his appendix. The operation will not delay the midfielder’s return to the Kuip however, as the Japanese is not expected back for another three weeks, ahead of Feyenoord’s training camp in Austria.

Ono was admitted to hospital for 48 hours during the run-up to the World Cup, after complaining of a painful blind gut. The decision to delay any operation at that time was driven by the player’s desire to help his country go as far as it could in the tournament. Although Shinji no longer feels any pain, in consultation with his doctor Niga the Feyenoorder decided that surgery would be the preferred option to avoid any complications in the future. Ono consequently cut his vacation to ten days to accommodate surgery. He’ll now return to Rotterdam 2 July before getting off to the Mediterranean for some well-earned sun. Feyenoord come together Sunday 14 July for the season’s first training session before heading for central Europe.
