BERT VAN MARWIJK TURNS UP THE HEAT

Bert van Marwijk turned up the heat on his own players the day before Thursday’s North Sea showdown in the Kuip against Glasgow Rangers. The trainer didn’t spare his words to express the discontent he feels after the debacle at the weekend. “I would be lying if I said nothing went on this week. We told each other a few home truths after the FC Twente game. It’s time we started playing some football,” said a visibly exasperated Van Marwijk.

Van Marwijk is as aware as anyone how vital the next few games are to Feyenoord’s season. “It’s the moment of truth. But at Feyenoord every moment should be like that. The many discussions of the past few days have had a refreshing effect. Everyone now knows what’s expected of him and we will have to go all out.” The Rotterdam outfit’s unpredictable performances has turned up the pressure on players and trainer alike recently. “I’ve had everything thrown at me these last few days. I obviously understand that the supporters are angry and disappointed. But I can tell you I’m even more angry. It’s time to show what we can do."
