FEYENOORD-FORTUNA SITTARD, WEDS 6 FEBRUARY, 8 PM

Feyenoord will go back to the top of the Eredivisie if they win their game in hand at home to Fortuna Sittard Wednesday night. The visitors have won only twice all season in the league and the Rotterdammers must be confident of bagging three points. On paper not a big ask maybe, but Fortuna have a history of wrecking the party with two wins from their last four visits to the Kuip.

Ex-Fortuna boss Bert van Marwijk is concerned about the situation at his former club. “All the same. I don’t want to get too sentimental about the game: we just need to win.” He and his men would do well to remember last year’s encounter, when Fortuna snatched all three points with a 2-3 win in the Kuip, despite being embroiled in a relegation dogfight. After the 5-0 mauling of Roda JC Van Marwijk will be happy to field the same eleven that started so ferociously Sunday. The only change is expected on the wing, where the Swede Elmander looks like making way for the Pole Smolarek. New signing Mauricio Aros is included in the squad, but Robin van Persie is unavailable due to international commitments. Van Persie joined up with the Dutch Under-19s squad for a friendly Tuesday. Bonaventure Kalou too is unlikely to figure. The Ivorian just returned from the African Cup of Nations and has not been able to train with the squad.
