VAN DEN HERIK’S SON NOT BACKING FIORENTINA

Yoeri van den Herik (33), oldest son of Feyenoord chairman Jorien van den Herik, has been asked to take on commercial duties at Italy’s Fiorentina and will not be injecting money into the cash-strapped club. The news comes after the Italian press falsely reported that Van den Herik jr was to invest 13 million euros in the Florence outfit.

“Furthermore, there is no link whatsoever between Feyenoord and Fiorentina,” affirmed Feyenoord Manager Jan D. Swart. As Swart explains, “The misunderstanding probably stems from the fact that if he does accept the post, he will also join the Fiorentina board at the same time. He will, he told me, be making a decision in the course of next week.” Yoeri van den Herik maintains contacts with Florence through his employer and has consequently regularly been a guest of Fiorentina with his business relations. “It’s easy to manufacture a link with Feyenoord and also with Jorien. But Yoeri has built up his own business career. I understand that people immediately suppose there is some sort of collaboration between Fiorentina and Feyenoord, but that is completely unfounded. In that regard Feyenoord already has enough cooperation agreements.”
