AFRICAN CUP: LIONS BEAT ELEPHANTS AS KALOU SITS IT OUT

Bonaventure Kalou may be home sooner than he wished after his Ivory Coast again failed to make their mark in the African Cup of Nations. The goalless draw with Togo last Tuesday was followed Friday by defeat at the hands of Cameroon. Patrick Mboma scored the only goal of the game to secure a win for the reigning champions, while Kalou watched helplessly from the substitutes bench.

Coach Lama Bamba kept the Feyenoorder under wraps for almost the whole game, preferring Ibrahim Bakayoko and the excellent Abdelkader Keita. Kalou eventually got off the bench with three minutes remaining and was unsurprisingly unable to influence the final outcome. Ivory Coast now have to secure three points in next Tuesday’s game with DR of Congo and rely on Cameroon beating Togo on the same day to progress.
