ROBIN VAN PERSIE JOINS SQUAD

Young Robin van Persie has been added to the first team squad until the end of the season. The 18-year-old Rotterdammer joined the group for training Friday. “I’ve followed Robin intensively lately,” Bert van Marwijk explained. “Van Persie is obviously an enormously talented youngster, but this season has seen him make great strides physically and emotionally. He deserves to train with the first team.”

Robin van Persie is the sixth youngster to earn a squad number under Van Marwijk, following in the footsteps of Leonardo, Ebi Smolarek, Glenn Loovens, Civard Sprockel and Said Boutahar. Another promising teenager, Melsie van Driel, got a run out in the friendly at Go Ahead Eagles recently, emphasising the strength of Feyenoord’s scouting system. It’s now time to see whether Robin can make his mark in front of 40 thousand plus fans at the Kuip, not so very far from where he first displayed his enormous natural talent on the streets of Rotterdam’s Kralingen district. “Robin has a fantastic left foot. And I’m convinced of his abilities,” says Van Marwijk.
