VAN GASTEL SAYS FAREWELL TO FEYENOORD

Jean-Paul van Gastel has completed a transfer to Italian outfit Ternana. The midfielder, who was recently granted a free transfer in recognition of his years of service at Feyenoord, signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Serie B club in Milan tuesday. Today Van Gastel has succesfully undergone a medical in Terni, Ternana’s home.

Van Gastel is clearly elated that the transfer has been completed so quickly. 'My first impression of the club is very good. I was given a perfect reception by the board this afternoon. The negotiations went very smoothly too. It’s a load off my mind. I’m pleased I’ll get back to playing soon. What’s more, in a country that’s always appealed to me in terms of football.' Ternana currently finds itself in the lower reaches of Serie B, third from bottom. Nevertheless, Van Gastel didn’t think twice before accepting the club’s offer. 'Ternana is an ambitious club. Although the main thing now is survival in Serie B. I hope that I can make a contribution. I am really looking forward to it whatever happens.'
