FC TWENTE-FEYENOORD, WEDS 19 DECEMBER 8PM

Feyenoord travel to Enschede Wednesday for a league game that certainly looks winnable on paper. Feyenoord have often found it tough in ‘hell’, as the Twente supporters have nicknamed their ARKE Stadium, although the Rotterdam outfit did win the last meeting at the ground in August 2000. The table would suggest they can do it again, because FC Twente currently find themselves second bottom of the Eredivisie.

Bert van Marwijk will be forced to make at least two changes to the team that started Sunday’s game at home to PSV. Injuries mean Ferry de Haan and Paul Bosvelt are both unavailable for the last two games before the winter break. The trainer is not giving anything away ahead of the game, but Patrick Paauwe is expected to retain his place in central defence, with Kees van Wonderen returning to his favoured position in midfield. Johan Elmander is likely to keep his place, despite a mediocre performance at the weekend. The hard-working Swede will need to show a vast improvement, however, if he is to hold down his place in face of stiff competition from Kalou and Dos Santos. Probable team: Zoetebier; Emerton, Sprockel (Gyan), Paauwe, Rzasa; Elmander (Kalou), Van Wonderen, Ono, Smolarek; Van Hooijdonk en Tomasson.
