Bilal Basaçikoglu pledged his immediate future to Feyenoord on Wednesday afternoon, signing a new contract in the Boardroom at De Kuip that runs until mid-2020. The 22-year-old’s previous deal was set to expire in the summer of 2018.
It is the second time that Basaçikoglu has extended his stay at De Kuip. The winger arrived at the club from sc Heerenveen in July 2014 and has made 64 Eredivisie appearances in the past three seasons. The KNVB Cup he won with Feyenoord last April was his first career trophy.
Martin van Geel expressed his delight at the contract extension when the parties convened to sign the new deal on Wednesday afternoon. ‘We have had a number of good discussions and we are happy we have managed to tie up Bilal for even longer. The decision to continue with each other is widely supported by the people who work with him on a daily basis,’ says the technical director.
Van Geel feels Basaçikoglu has some specific qualities. ‘Bilal is a very fast, dangerous player who can get past his man and claim assists. He could get more goals, but the technical staff are working on that with him every day. His performances have become more and more consistent over the years. For a winger of his age – he’s still only 22 – he’s made good progress.’
