Better in every area, says satisfied Van Bronckhorst

Feyenoord’s ended a dismal run of four defeats in five matches with a 4-0 win at AZ on Sunday. Coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst expressed relief after the final whistle.

At this club you know you have to win every week. So there was a bit of pressure on us today after a couple of defeats,’ said  Van Bronckhorst. ‘On the other hand  that pressure generates the energy to perform as we did today. This was the only way to respond after the defeats to NAC Breda and Napoli. We had to stand up and we did.’
Van Bronckhorst had seen his team dominate from minute one at the AFAS Stadium. ‘Today we were better than AZ in every area,’ said the coach. ‘In possession we were very secure. When there was movement we were often able to find the free man and build easily. We did that well today.’
Although Feyenoord sparkled at times going forward, Van Bronckhorst was especially satisfied with the defensive display too. ‘I felt we were very strong at the back in particular. Jeremiah St. Juste and Renato Tapia played very well as the central partnership today. It’s not easy to play together straight away. The boys were outstanding.’
