The UEFA Youth League last sixteen tie between Feyenoord Under 19s and Chelsea Under 19s will be played on Wednesday 21 Feb...
After the weekend win against Heracles Almelo, Feyenoord returned to work on Monday with full focus on the Champions League opener against Manchester City. Coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst is looking forward to leading his side on the highest stage in European football.
‘It’s special,’ said Van Bronckhorst talking to Feyenoord TV about the return of Champions League football to De Kuip. ‘I won the Champions League with Barcelona as a player. For me, it’s a competition full of many great memories from the great matches I played. Not only for Barcelona, Glasgow Rangers and Arsenal, but in my first period at Feyenoord too.’
‘The experience will now be a little different for me as a coach,’ Van Bronckhorst continued. ‘But for the experience and development of my players, playing in the Champions League against an out-and-out top team is very valuable.’
To Van Bronckhorst’s minC, Manchester city is definitely one of those. ‘They are a team with the qualities to go on and win the tournament. You see it in the Manchester City matches you watch and the players you see there. When you watch the footage and see what’s awaiting us, we’ll have to be at the top of our game for the full ninety minutes.’
