Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been buoyed by the news that Nicolai Jørgensen and Steven Berghuis are both available for selection in Sunday’s home match against AZ. Both missed a training session this week but returned to train with the squad on Friday.
The Feyenoord head coach will be pleased to see the duo back in contention as, for the first time this season, his squad has been hit by a spate of injuries. Bilal Basaçikoglu (ankle), Eljero Elia (ankle), Brad Jones (lower leg), Terence Kongolo (thigh) and Marko Vejinovic (knee) are all ruled out against AZ.
Jones has spent a couple of nights in hospital this week with a lower leg infection. He is expected to be discharged today, Friday, and will hook back up with the squad next week.
Tonny Vilhena is available on Sunday. Feyenoord jave appealed against the decision of the KNVB’s disciplinary committee, announced Friday, to give Vilhena a four-match ban, one of which suspended, for an alleged foul during last weekend’s away match at Sparta Rotterdam.
