The UEFA Youth League last sixteen tie between Feyenoord Under 19s and Chelsea Under 19s will be played on Wednesday 21 Feb...
Nicolai Jørgensen scored his third goal in three Eredivisie matches to give Feyenoord an unassailable 2-0 lead against FC Groningen on Saturday night. It was a handsome goal all told, with the Dane lobbing the ball in off the post after a fine back-heel from Steven Berghuis.
Post-match Jørgensen was full of praise for the teammates who worked hard to set up his goal. ‘Sam gave the ball to Steven, who got it to me via an unbelievable back-heel. My chip was great too and it went in nicely off the post. You normally only score goals like that in training. It’s one of the nicest goals I’ve scored for Feyenoord, maybe the nicest of all,’ said Jørgensen.
Ahead of the match the Dane had said that getting a win was the only thing that mattered in Groningen. ‘But the way we played also gives us a lot of confidence. Especially in the first eighty minutes we played strongly, both in defence and attack. In the first half we found it hard to score; thankfully we struck twice quickly after the break. Keeping a clean sheet gives the whole team a good feeling.’
The victory ends Feyenoord’s run of five winless Eredivisie matches. ‘It was very important that we won today because we could not - and did not want to – lose to many more points. We don’t have any midweek fixtures over the next few weeks, so we can recuperate. A lot of lads have played with their national teams in recent weeks, so the fallow week comes at a good time. As a result, we will be able to work towards next Saturday‘s home match against Vitesse.’
