Feyenoord has reached agreement with sc Heerenveen on the transfer of Lucas Woudenberg, effective immediately. The 23-year-old left back will sign a two-year deal with the Friesland club. Woudenberg had two years to run on his Feyenoord contract, which was set to expire in the summer of 2019.
Woudenberg first joined Feyenoord aged ten. He played on loan at Excelsior in 2013-2014. The following season he made his first-team debut on 11 December 2014, starting the Europa League group match at Standard Liege, which Feyenoord won 3-0. He was loaned out to N.E.C. in 2015-2016, before returning to De Kuip last season, when he made eight Eredivisie appearances for Feyenoord.
‘Though Lucas has not always been a first-team regular, he has always given the full hundred per cent for Feyenoord,’ said technical director Martin van Geel on Tuesday. ‘We really appreciate that. Lucas is now at an age that he has to play and wants to; a transfer was the best option for him. We wish him all the best at Heerenveen.’
