Michiel Kramer has re-joined the squad for training ahead of Sunday’s Eredivisie fixture at AZ. The striker missed out against Napoli on Tuesday with a groin problem picked up during training in southern Italy on Monday evening.
The trip to Alkmaar comes too early for Nicolai Jørgensen. Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed during the press conference at De Kuip on Friday afternoon that he does not expect the Danish forward to return until after the international break. Eric Botteghin, Jan-Arie van der Heijden and Kenneth Vermeer are all ruled out with long-term injuries.
It all means that Van Bronckhorst has 18 outfield players and 3 keepers available for selection against AZ. Including Sven van Beek and Bart Nieuwkoop, both of whom the coach says must have some pitch time to get a chance to return to their best.
‘I’m happy to have been able to give Sven 15 minutes on Tuesday against Napoli. We will have him play over the next few weeks in the first or second team, so that he is able to make progress,’ said Van Bronckhorst, who is yet to decide on his starting line-up for Sunday. ‘I’ll make my final decisions after Saturday’s last training session.’
