The UEFA Youth League last sixteen tie between Feyenoord Under 19s and Chelsea Under 19s will be played on Wednesday 21 Feb...
Head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst was critical of his side after Sunday’s 2-2 draw against ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie. Feyenoord failed to win for the fourth league match in succession.
‘This draw is very annoying, because we really need the points at the moment,’ said Van Bronckhorst after a match that Feyenoord started well, taking an early lead through Nicolai Jørgensen. ‘We should have closed down the game after that. We didn’t, as we have habitually not done in recent weeks.’
That gave ADO a way back into the match and the hosts turned the match on its head with goals either side of the break. The Feyenoord defence looked rickety on both occasions. ‘For the equaliser half the team were asleep after the quickly taken free kick,’ said Van Bronckhorst. ‘We gave the second goal away far too easily too. In recent weeks we’ve conceded too many goals due to our own mistakes. A number of players are simply not at the standard they were at last season.’
‘We got a draw through hard work but we had enough chances to win. Steven Berghuis would normally convert one of those chances, but today it wasn’t to be for him. Unfortunately, on a run we are on little is coming off.’
