Giovanni van Bronckhorst was obviously satisfied after his side’s 7-0 win at Sparta Rotterdam. The head coach spoke after the match. Read what he said below.
‘It was enjoyable today. We played outstanding football, based on our own strengths,’ said Van Bronckhorst after Feyenoord’s dominant first-half performance left them four ahead at the break. ‘Sparta had problems with our positional switching and all the movement in our game.’
Van Bronckhorst played a key role in that, selecting Jens Toornstra ahead of Sofyan Amrabat due to his eye for depth. As a result, striker Dylan Vente was also picked to replace Nicolai Jørgensen, who missed the game for private family reasons. ‘Dylan showed he has a lot of promise and is a complete striker. He scored a fabulous goal, which was created from a good run and he also made himself available for passes. Dylan was outstanding today,’ said the head coach about the 18-year-old.
Van Bronckhorst was also happy with how his side continued to perform well after the break. ‘We relaxed a bit in the last five minutes of the first half. At the break my message was that we had to step it up again and not give Sparta the chance to get back into the match, which we were guilty of earlier in the season at Heracles (HT: 0-3, FT: 2-4, ed.).’
‘We did well, not least by getting the fifth straight after half time and then pulling further away. Goal difference could be important at the end of the season,’ said Van Bronckhorst before getting on the bus back to De Kuip.
