‘The confidence is back,’ said a satisfied Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Friday afternoon, two days ...
Coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst is hopeful that Eljero Elia will be available for selection in Sunday‘s match against FC Twente. The winger returned to squad training on Friday morning after missing the previous two days with a minor hamstring injury.
‘Eljero did not join in with everything on Friday, but he has made progress compared with the beginning of the week, said Van Bronckhorst. The final decision on whether he plays against his former club will be deferred until after Saturday training. ‘Given what I have seen today, it’s looking good,’ said the coach.
Karim El Ahmadi is certainly in Sunday’s first-team squad, Van Bronckhorst confirmed. The midfielder returned from Africa Cup of Nations duty earlier in the week.
One player who definitely will not be in the match-day squad is Kenneth Vermeer. The keeper was between the posts for the reserves on Monday, but has not been in training these past few days because of illness. Vermeer will feature for the reserves again on Monday 13 February against Heerenveen. The next step will be decides after that.
