Cup holders Feyenoord continue the defence of their title on Thursday evening in Arnhem, where Vitesse provide the quarterfinal opposition. His side remain strong title contenders, but coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants his men to shift their focus fully to the cup.
'I see the same hunger to win the cup as last season in this team. We will go all out tomorrow,’ said Van Bronckhorst during the pre-match press conference at De Kuip on Wednesday afternoon. ‘At a certain moment last year the cup was our only chance of a tangible trophy. The situation is completely different now, but that does not reduce our hunger in any way. We are going for the best possible outcome both in the league and in the cup.’
Van Bronckhorst will have to make changes in Arnhem, though. Karim El Ahmadi (Africa Cup of Nations) and Tonny Vilhena (suspension) are both ruled out, while Jens Toornstra is a doubt due to illness.
‘We have a number of options for midfield,’ said Van Bronckhorst. When making our choices we look at the balance in the team, but we don’t want to move too many players from the position they are used to playing. It’ll become clear tomorrow how we put that into practice.’
