Van Bronckhorst unhappy about missed chances

Feyenoord had to do with a point in Kerkrade on Saturday evening, drawing 1-1 against Roda JC. Given the way the match panned out, they should have had three, said head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst after the final whistle.

Van Bronckhorst was primarily unhappy that his side missed a lot of opportunities. ‘We made so many chances in the second half to score the winning goal, but the ball just wouldn’t go in, ’ said the head coach. ‘We were the dominant team but you have to take your chances. We didn’t have the luck with us today. You cannot make so many chances and not take them.’

Steven Berghuis opened the scoring after ten minutes or so. ‘That was great and good play by Steven. An early lead like that should give you confidence for the rest of the match, but the equaliser came soon after. That cannot happen. The football we played after that should have been enough to win. We didn’t manage it unfortunately.’

‘The only thing I can say against my team is that we did not take our chances, ’ Van Bronckhorst continued. ‘If you see the result people will think the two teams were well matched, but when you look at the chances, we deserved more than a point. It’s precisely a win we need, because it’s clear we are on a tough run.’
