Bruno Martins Indi will join FC Porto with immediate effect. Feyenoord and the 22-year-old defender have reached agreement with the Portuguese club, with Martins Indi set to sign a four-year contract. Martins Indi was born in Portugal, joining Feyenoord as a C junior and making the step up to the first-team squad in 2010. The player had a contract with Feyenoord through to mid 2016.
Martins Indi was part of the Dutch squad that recently claimed third-place at the World Cup in Brazil. ‘This step comes at a great time in Bruno's career,’ said Feyenoord’s technical director Martin van Geel. ‘He has followed a large part of his development as a youth at Feyenoord, growing into an important player in our first team and a full international. He is now ready to make the move abroad. As such he is a textbook example of what we want to do with our promising youngsters. We wish Bruno a great deal of success in this new challenge in his career.’
‘For me this feels like the right time to leave,’ said Martins Indi, who made his Feyenoord debut in August 2010. ‘I have now played over a hundred matches for the club and have a World Cup to my name. From the start I have said that I hoped, if I ever did take the next step in my career, both myself and the club would benefit. For Feyenoord my departure is good from a financial point of view, while I have a new challenge in Portugal.’
