Giovanni van Bronckhorst was delighted with his side’s Thursday night KNVB Cup win against ADO Den Haag. Feyenoord fell behind, but went on to score five times without reply to book their place in the last 16.
‘5-1, those are excellent figures,’ said Van Bronckhorst post-match at De Kuip, after Feyenoord has knocked ADO out of the cup competition for the third season running. The coach called it a deserved victory. ‘We did not panic after falling behind early on. After the 0-1 we had another let-off with a ball against the post, but otherwise we handled ADO well.’
Van Bronckhorst, who enjoyed his side’s flowing attacks, had special praise for Bart Nieuwkoop and Sam Larsson. ‘Bart was outstanding tonight in Jeremiah’s place. Sam has been on the right track for a few weeks now and he has now rewarded himself with a goal.’
The win put Feyenoord into the draw for the last 16 of the KNVB Cup, which will be held on Saturday evening.
