Elia agrees Turkey switch

Eljero Elia has agreed terms with Başakşehir on a transfer to the Turkish club. The 30-year-old winger, who was contracted to Feyenoord until mid-2018, will pen a three-year deal with the Istanbul-based club.

Elia arrived at Feyenoord on a free transfer from Werder Bremen in 2015. Under the deal, club and player agreed clear provisions, facilitating any subsequent move away from De Kuip by Elia, says technical director Martin van Geel. ‘Eljero came to De Kuip two years ago with a clear goal. He took a big pay cut at the time to come here to play and we discussed then how in time he could take his next step away from Feyenoord. We achieved our goals in winning the KNVB Cup in 2016 and the Dutch title last season, so he felt it was time to take the next step. Both Feyenoord and Eljero can look back on a very good working relationship over the past two years. We wish him lots of luck at his new club.’
