Feyenoord will prepare for the second half of the season at a training camp in Dubai during the winter break. Coach Fred Rutten’s squad travel to the United Arab Emirates on Monday 5 January and return to the Netherlands on Sunday 11 January. It is not yet know whether Feyenoord will play any friendlies during the trip.
One of the United Arab Emirates, situated on the Persian Gulf in the Middle East, Dubai is close to Oman, where Feyenoord arranged a training camp in 2011. The capital city, which has the same name, is primarily known for stunning architecture, including the seven-star Burj Al Arab hotel and the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, which is over 829 metres high.
The temperature in Dubai is between 14 and 24 degrees Celsius in January. That makes it the idea destination for Feyenoord to prepare for the second half of the season. Feyenoord’s first fixture after the winter break is a home league game against FC Twente on Sunday 18 January.
‘Welcoming 14-time Eredivisie title winner, Feyenoord Rotterdam, to train in Dubai enhances what has been a truly fantastic year for football in Dubai’, says Hamad Bin Mejren, Executive Director, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Dubai UAE. ‘We have seen the obsession with the beautiful game hit fever pitch amongst locals, expats and visitors alike, so it’s the perfect time to bring the team to the emirate for its winter training camp. We’re both honoured and excited to host Feyenoord Rotterdam in January 2015, following the Dubai Football Challenge which will close a blockbuster year for football in the emirate, and we look forward to the team kicking off a new year in the city’s winter sunshine.’
Ahead of the training camp in Dubai Feyenoord will play a benefit match against FC Emmen at De Kuip on Sunday 4 January. Kick off is at 2.30 pm. All proceeds from this fixture will be donated to the Feyenoord Foundation, the Feyenoord charity. Tickets for this match cost €7.50 and are available from www.feyenoord.nl/ticketshop.
