Feyenoord recorded a 3-0 victory against Hapoel Beer Sheva at the Turner Stadium in Israel on Thursday night to secure their place in this season’s Europa League. Orkun Kökcü, Steven Berghuis and Wouter Burger scored the goals that gave Jaap Stam’s men a 6-0 aggregate win.
The Feyenoord head coach expected a tricky match in Beer Sheva and that is what unfolded in the opening 45 minutes. The game ebbed and flowed in the first half, with plenty of chances. At one end, the visitors were unable to convert their opportunities, while Feyenoord keeper Kenneth Vermeer was in good form at the other end to keep the sides level.
Hapoel Beer Sheva lose a man
With Vermeer in defiant mood Feyenoord were able to get to the half-time break intact. The same could not be said for the hosts. In the closing minutes of the half Hanan Maman was shown a direct red card for going rough on Ridgeciano Haps.
The visitors exploited their numerical advantage in the second period. Orkun Kökcü grabbed the opener within two minutes of the restart; Steven Berghuis doubled the lead not long after with a perfectly placed shot into the right-hand corner of the goal. Substitute Wouter Burger made it three near the end.
The midfielder received from Sam Larsson, taking the ball with his right behind his standing leg before poking it into the left-hand corner. It was an impressive first goal in a Feyenoord shirt for the youngster.
The Europa league groups are set to be dawn on Friday in Monaco. Ticketing information will be published as soon as possible. Next up for Feyenoord is a visit to Eredivisie leaders Willem II.
