Feyenoord has reached agreement with youth player Rick Karsdorp on his first professional contract. The 19-year-old midfielder will soon put his signature to a detailed 18-month contract, which commences on 1 January 2014 and includes a 12-month extension option.
His Feyenoord contract is a boyhood dream come true, admits Karsdorp. ‘I’ve been playing for Feyenoord for nine years now and I’ve always hoped to earn a professional contract one day. So I’m over the moon that’s it’s really happened now.’
Technical director Martin van Geel is also delighted to have reached an agreement with Karsdorp. ‘Rick is a big talent, a youth international and a real number ten. He’s strong on the ball and his distribution is good. He will get every opportunity to develop further with us. We are very confident that Rick will have a great future at Feyenoord.’
Karsdorp made the switch from his first club vv Schoonhoven as an E-junior and has since progressed through the whole youth academy at Feyenoord. This season he’s playing for Feyenoord A1 and is in first place in the player rankings for the Eredivisie for A-juniors. Karsdorp made his debut in the Feyenoord/Excelsior development squad in the home match against the FC Utrecht development squad last Monday.
