Daryl Janmaat, Stefan de Vrij, Bruno Martins Indi, Terence Kongolo and Jordy Clasie have been named in Louis van Gaal’s 23-man squad for Brazil 2014. Announced on Saturday, the squad does not include Tonny Vilhena and Jean-Paul Boёtius, both of whom were in the provisional 30. The Feyenoord contingent is the biggest in the World Cup squad.
Another six players with a Feyenoord background join the quintet on the plane to Rio on 5 June. Captain Robin van Persie, Dirk Kuijt, Ron Vlaar, Jonathan de Guzman, Leroy Fer and Georginio Wijnaldum are all in the squad.
Brazil 2014 will be the first major international tournament for all five Feyenoord players. After Friday training the day before the announcement Jordi Clasie admitted that he was desperate to be in the squad. ‘Going to the World Cup in Brazil is a dream for me,’ said the Feyenoord captain.’
A Van Persie penalty helped Oranje beat Ghana on Saturday night at De Kuip, while the final warm-up before jetting out is in Amsterdam on Wednesday, when Wales provide the opposition.
The tournament starts for the Dutch on Friday 13 June with a match against World Champions Spain.
