Immers cannot wait for new season to begin

Lex Immers is ready for the new season at Feyenoord. The attacking midfielder (28) was at De Kuip on Tuesday, where he and his colleagues took some physical tests before he retired to one of the business units to sign his new contract. ‘I’ve had a great holiday and was able to enough R&R after a tough season. I’m ready for everything to get going again,’ said Immers, who is looking forward to the first day of training at De Kuip.

The 2014/2015 campaign will be Immers’ third season at De Kuip. The midfielder, who scored 24 league goals in his first two years, is so looking forward to the new season at Feyenoord that he agreed a new contract last month to keep him at the club until 2017. The contract was signed on Tuesday. ‘I see this contract as a reward for my performances, which are getting better after a tough start. I feel great about the appreciation I get from the club. Feyenoord is the finest club in the Netherlands and I’m happy to be able to extend my stay here.’
After the first training session, Feyenoord play their first preseason warm-up on Saturday, with the training camp in Ermelo also approaching fast. ‘We have the grasp the coming period as a group to get fit and get in form, so that we gain in confidence in the run-up to the matches in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. This is the big task everything is oriented to. In the past two years we have not been successful in the European qualifying rounds, but if I have anything to do with we will change that this time.’
