Luke Wilkshire’s contract terminated

Luke Wilkshire contract with Feyenoord has been terminated by mutual agreement with immediate effect. The Australian wing-back was unable to secure a spot in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s starting eleven during preseason and in the season opener. So despite still having ten months to run on his contract the 33-year-old has opted to leave the club.

Wilkshire arrived at De Kuip on a free transfer in the summer of 2014 and made 27 appearances in official fixtures for the club last season. The Australian, capped 80 times for the Socceroos, completed preseason with Feyenoord, but was given little game time in the friendlies. Following his exclusion from the match-day squad for the opening Eredivisie fixture of the season against FC Utrecht Wilkshire felt that he needed a fresh challenge.
