After contract renewals for Nicolai Jørgensen and Jens Toornstra, Feyenoord has now reached agreement with Steven Berghuis on an extended stay. The 27-year-old midfielder will sign a new contract valid until mid-2022. His current contract is set to end in the summer of 2021.
Berghuis was loaned from Watford in the title-winning season 2016-2017, but signed a direct deal in the summer of 2017. 2017-2018 was another very successful one for the Dutchman, who was named the season’s Most Valuable Player.
Berghuis was Feyenoord’s top scorer that term, netting 23 times and claiming 15 assists in all competitions. The midfielder bagged another 12 goals and the same number of assists last season.
