Rashaan Fernandes signed his first professional contract with Feyenoord on Friday afternoon. The youngster, who turns 16 very soon, put his signature to a three-year deal in the plush surroundings of one of the De Kuip business units in the presence of members of his family.
Fernandes said afterwards that he had consciously chosen to extend his stay in Rotterdam. ‘Feyenoord is my club, I want to play at De Kuip as a Feyenoord player. In that sense Jean-Paul Boëtius is a role model for me. He plays in the same position as me. I’m a fast winger who likes to get involved and provide assists, but I’m also a finisher in front of goal.’
Rashaan Fernandes first joined the Feyenoord Academy in the C2 group after making the switch from Excelsior. Last season he was a striker in the B1 squad as first-year B junior. He will continue in the same squad next term. Preseason starts on 28 July.
