The Feyenoord squad completed the first training session of preseason 2014/2015 at De Kuip on Wednesday. It was the first session under the direction of new head coach Fred Rutten, who was welcomed by thousands of fans with a special banner and a number of chants. He was also given a huge round of applause when stadium announcer Peter Houtman presented the players and technical staff.
Twenty players joined Rutten for his first training session as Feyenoord coach. Besides the quintet currently in Brazil with the Dutch national team (Stefan de Vrij, Bruno Martins Indi, Daryl Janmaat, Jordy Clasie and Terence Kongolo), Tonny Vilhena, Sven van Beek and Jean-Paul Boëtius were also absent. All three are on holiday until the beginning of next week, after playing for the Dutch Under 21s in May.
For some of those present it was no doubt nice to be back after a longer period away. Lucas Woudenberg, Anass Achahbar, Matthew Steenvoorden and Elvis Manu all returned to De Kuip after spending at least part of last season on loan.
There were some new faces too. Keeper Warner Hahn, a summer transfer from FC Dordrecht, was sporting the new bright green goalie’s strip. Feyenoord Academy graduates Rick Karsdorp and Wessel Dammers were two more additions to the squad, while another Varkenoord product, Rodny Lopes Cabral, completed an individual training session inside.
