Ronald Koeman will work in the English Premier League next season. The 51-year-old, who spent the last three seasons at De Kuip, has agreed to become Southampton’s new coach. He takes brother Erwin as his assistant to the club that finished eighth in the EPL last term. Koeman will put his signature to a three-year contract.
Jan Kluitenberg will join the Koeman brothers on the south coast of England. Last season Kluitenberg was physical trainer at De Kuip. Arno Philips, who moves to Feyenoord from PSV, will replace him.
Koeman’s appointment is the beginning of a new adventure after three great years in Rotterdam. After coaching jobs at PSV, Benfica and Valencia among others, he returned to Feyenoord as head coach in the summer of 2011, where he ended his playing career in 1997.
Koeman led the club to second, third and second again in his three Eredivisie seasons, bringing through a large number of future internationals. After his final home match against sc Cambuur he was given a huge send-off in gratitude for his work.
