Giovanni van Bronckhorst described Sunday’s defeat at FC Groningen as his side’s worst performance in his time as head coach of Feyenoord. ‘We were not in the game from minute one and never got into it,’ said the former Dutch international.
Dropping points yet again was a huge disappointment for Van Bronckhorst. ‘I didn’t say a lot after the match,’ he admitted. ‘We didn’t hold on to the ball, were sloppy and took too many risks with back passes.’
Van Bronckhorst said that everyone in the Feyenoord squad had to share the blame for the defeat and how it came about. ‘Me the most perhaps. We have to turn this round or we will make things very hard for ourselves,’ alluding to the fact that fourth-place AZ are now just two points behind his side.
‘It will have to be different over the next two months or we will lose even more ground. It’s going to be a busy week, with matches against PSV, Ajax and FC Emmen. We we will have to play differently in those matches, we have to get better. We will put even more energy into that.’
