Giovanni van Bronckhorst had little to grumble about after the 4-0 win against De Graafschap on Saturday night. The head coach was especially pleased with his side’s strong second half performance.
‘I’m more satisfied with the second half than the first,’ said Van Bronckhorst, who saw Feyenoord take the lead somewhat fortuitously when Tonny Vilhena’s shot was deflected in. But a flurry of goals early in the second half gave the hosts a 4-0 win. The head coach was pleased to see defenders score two of those goals. ‘Today we needed the attacking impetus of our backs. So it’s great that they scored.’
Although he didn’t score, Cuco Martina was complimented by his coach. ‘Cuco did well,’ said Van Bronckhorst about the debutant, who looked solid in the heart of defence. ‘It’s good to get a clean sheet again; we haven’t managed that for a while. All told, we can feel good about this evening.’
