Group has ‘fantastic will’ says Advocaat

In the end, it went into the records as another win for Dick Advocaat as Feyenoord coach. His side beat Fortuna Sittard in the KNVB Cup with a very late strike by Luciano Narsingh. ‘It wasn’t fabulous, but I’m very happy with the result.’

The remaining half an hour of normal time and the extra 30 minutes of extra time were not particularly entertaining, as Advocaat acknowledged. ‘It was a very strange match, of course, knowing that one goal would probably be decisive. Early on it was mostly about keeping them out, after that it could have gone any way. I’m happy that it fell our way, thanks to Luciano. It’s very important for him that he scored, and for us too, of course.’

What with the extra half an hour, the match ended up lasting longer than anticipated. Neither Nicolai Jørgensen nor Orkun Kökcü did not make it to the end, although Advocaat said post-match that they seemed relatively fine. ‘The medical staff told me that they will probably be okay, but we’ll have to wait till tomorrow.’

Advocaat also made a point of complimenting his squad. ‘We are working very hard with each other every day to get this done. It’s not always pretty, but the results over the past few months say something about the quality of this group. In any case, the will of the group is fantastic, I cannot say anything against that.’
