Cole Bassett becomes second transfer window arrival

Feyenoord has dipped into the transfer market for the second time this year, securing Cole Bassett on an 18-month loan deal. The USA midfielder arrives with immediate effect from MLS side Colorado Rapids. As part of the deal, Feyenoord has an option to sign the 20-year-old outright after the loan contract expires.

Since his debut in September 2018, Bassett has made 75 official appearances for the Colorado Rapids, scoring 13 goals. He also recently earned his first USA cap, coming off the bench to net the winner against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Technical director Frank Arnesen is pleased to secure Bassett’s services, who was also on the club’s radar in the summer. ‘His arrival wasn’t feasible for us then,’ says Arnesen. ‘It’s really great that we’ve now managed to put together this loan deal and option to buy, so he can join the squad this season.’

‘Cole is a typical box-to-box player who can cover a huge amount of ground,’ adds Arnesen. ‘That means he can be an important link in a team both offensively and defensively. He’s also comfortable with both feet on the ball. He has everything in him to take the next step in his development here at Feyenoord and to become a more complete player. We’ll give him the time and show him the trust he needs for that.’

Bassett will be available for selection once his work permit has been finalised.
