Feyenoord add Philippe Sandler

Feyenoord have strengthened their squad with the addition of Philippe Sandler. The 24-year-old defender arrives on a free transfer from Manchester City, signing a contract until the end of the season, with an optional clause to extend the deal.
Sandler made his Eredivisie debut at PEC Zwolle in 2016 and made the switch to Manchester City two years later. The EPL side loaned him out to first RSC Anderlecht, then ES Troyes AC during his first season under contract.

Frank Arnesen is pleased to secure the services of the defender, who comes in at almost 1.90 metres tall. ‘Philippe is familiar with the Netherlands. Due to his years abroad, he returns a more experienced player. His is also physically stronger. We expect him as player and us as club to profit a lot from that.’

Sandler is the fourth winter arrival at Feyenoord. Patrik Wålemark, Cole Bassett and Jorrit Hendrix were all added to the squad earlier in January. ‘In this transfer window we have had to look in a very targeted and creative way at how and in which positions we could strengthen the squad – in doing so, considering both the short and long term,’ adds Arnesen. ‘It’s really great that we have managed to bring in a pure central defender as reinforcement just before the transfer deadline and it makes us less vulnerable across that line too.’
