Feyenoord beaten by Lyon in preseason friendly

Feyenoord went down to defeat against Olympique Lyon at De Kuip on Sunday in the traditional preseason curtain-raiser. The French took command in the first half, striking twice, with Arne Slot’s side unable to get back into the match.
After the final whistle Slot admitted that, while his side certainly had to improve, he’d seen plenty of good play both on and off the ball. He was especially pleased to see his team applying pressure, though he did temper that immediately, adding: ‘Fact is, we have to create more chances’.

They were certainly few and far between for the hosts. As for the visitors, Olympique Lyon had no more than a half-chance to take the lead. Alexandre Lacazette’s drive from 30 metres out had enough wobble to take it out of Justin Bijlow’s reach and into the net off the inside of the post.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide doubled the lead just ahead of the break, netting at the far post from a corner. It was only after Slot initiated a raft of substitutions in the second half that Feyenoord started to exude any threat. Danilo went closest; his shot cannoned off the keeper’s legs.

With the new season just around the corner, Feyenoord return to action on Wednesday. NAC Breda provide the opposition at Varkenoord, with kick-off scheduled for 13:00 CET.
